Why Massage
Massage is spiritual nonsense!
Massage is for athletes! And Im not into sports.
Massage is a holiday treat.
Massage still has a lot of misconception attached to it. The three examples above highlight this.
But if not that, then what is massage all about? Holistic massage has been a part of everyday culture in the east for thousands of years, not just as a medical therapy but also for everyday enjoyment and long term vitality.
As your body ages it slowly begins to dry out, this is a natural aging process. It explains why skin becomes drier and less elastic as you get older. Massage is a great way to counter this by working all the skeletal muscles, the joints, the skin and all the tissues connecting them together. Massage mechanically stimulates your body to remain healthy and flexible. Helping your body to remain as young as possible, for as long as possible.
In today's modern society stress has become part and parcel of our lifestyle, what you may not be aware of is how stress affects your body. When you feel threatened, as if you were in danger! Your body responds in very specific ways. It prepares you for possible fight or flight; it tenses the muscles ready for action. It also slows the parts of your body's function that aren't immediately necessary for life preservation, one of these is your immune system response.
This may seem an extreme situation but your body perceives stress in the same way, maybe not as severe but the body's responses are the same, therefore, long term stress will have a long term affect on your body's health.
Your muscles will hold that tension making you tense and tired over a period of time. A lowered immune system makes you more susceptible to bacterial, fungal and viral infections. Massage mechanically stimulates the tense muscles, softening and releasing this tension, it can directly stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system.
This is the part of the nervous system that returns the body to normal functioning after stress, helping to return your immune system to healthy levels.
And if nothing else a good massage just feels great.
